Dr. Richard Chamberlain

dr-richard-chamberlainOne of the Valley’s premier general surgeons, Dr. Richard Chamberlain, MD FACS is board certified and has been recognized as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery through Surgical Review Corporation. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, he graduated from the University of Virginia after three years before earning his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Chamberlain then completed the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency where he remained on teaching staff for over 20 years as a Professor of Clinical Surgery at University of Arizona teaching students and residents.  He also serves as Professor of Clinical Surgery at Creighton University, teaching students and residents at St. Joes as well as with Maricopa surgical residents at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.

In addition to his teaching duties and trauma call at St. Joes, he continues serving private practice patients in both central and north Phoenix as well as all of Scottsdale.  His practice includes general surgery procedures such as gallbladder removal, surgery of the thyroid, adrenal glands and parathyroid, gastrointestinal tract tumor excision and skin biopsies. He uses advanced laparoscopic and robotic technology whenever possible. Dr. Chamberlain was the first to perform robotic assisted ventral / incisional hernia repair in Scottsdale at the Shea campus and continues to work with the robotic teams there and at St. Joes.

Outside of a busy practice, Dr. Chamberlain and his wife Renae enjoy spending time together with their blended family. Attempting to manage 5 children, 25 to 7 years of age living at home can be very challenging at times. It is a task that they take very seriously and are so very blessed to have. The family enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking. Dr. Chamberlain has been known to enjoy a college football game or two. He believes in trying to balance work and play. Rocky Point is a favorite vacation spot for the Chamberlains to get away and spend quality time together.
